Frequently Asked Questions

The Things You'd Want to Know Before Booking Your Wedding Photographer

Over the years I've been asked a lot of questions about wedding photography. Here are the answers to the ones that come up most often. Still not sure about something? Just reach out, no question is too small.

The price says starting from. Are there additional costs?

There can be additional costs like travel, accommodation, photo booth hire or an engagement/family shoot. I shoot weddings across Bunbury, the South West, and Perth, including Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Margaret River, Ferguson Valley, Collie, Harvey, Manjimup, Pemberton, the Swan Valley, Mandurah, Rottnest Island and beyond.

What's the additional cost for travel?

Travel to the South West, Mandurah/Peel Region, south of the river Perth suburbs, Perth CBD, and UWA is included at no additional cost. For all other north of the river Perth locations a travel fee of $150 applies. For locations further afield please get in touch and I'll provide a custom quote. Accommodation costs for destination weddings requiring an overnight stay are to be covered by the client.

Does the package description limit what I can do during my time?

No, that's just a guide for how the time usually plays out. It's your day, we can shape it around whatever you've got planned.

How many weddings have you shot?

I have photographed 500+ weddings so I have a good sense of how long things take.

Do you shoot same-sex marriages?

Yes I do. I've shot multiple same-sex marriages and have no issues with shooting them at all.

So there isn’t going to be a bride as it’s a same-sex marriage, is this okay?

No problems at all. I've shot multiple same-sex marriages and have no issues with shooting them at all.

We are eloping, can you sign as a witness for us?

I'd love to sign as a witness for you both. There is no extra cost, just let me know.

Do you have a drone and is it possible to get drone photos of the wedding?

Yes I do have a drone, and yes it is possible to get drone photos of the wedding depending on the location. It comes down to the rules set by CASA, whether the owner of the property where you're having your wedding says it's ok, and sometimes the suburb. If it's possible I'll put my drone up and we'll get some photos.

Do you have a photo booth?

Yes I do, and you can add it to your photography package for an additional cost. It includes props, different backdrops to choose from and a custom design for your prints. For more information please have a look at my photo booth page.

Do you put watermarks on the photos that are sent to clients?

No I don't. I only put watermarks on the photo when posting on social media or advertising.

Do you shoot film or digital?

I shoot digital.

How do we receive our photos?

All digital images are provided via a private Google Drive link and a private gallery on my website. Packages 6 hours and over include a USB. If you want a USB drive as well that is not included in your hours, it will cost extra.

How long will I have access to my photos online?

Google Drive links remain active for 12 months from the date of delivery, and website galleries remain active for 14 months. I'd strongly recommend downloading and backing up your images well before these periods expire. Once the link is gone I'm unable to guarantee access to your photos after that time.

Can we shoot at multiple locations?

Yes, as long as we can get there in the time you have me booked for.

We are awkward and don't really like getting our photos taken, will you be able to pose and instruct us?

Yes, I'll be able to help you with that. It's ok, we're all awkward in some way, and if you're booking a package I might suggest getting an engagement shoot as well. This will help you get comfortable in front of the camera. Don't worry, it's not all serious poses, you've got to have some fun too.

How many photos do we get?

It depends on how long you hire me for haha. 6 hour packages have been getting a minimum of 500 photos, so roughly 80 to 100 per hour. Is there a limit on how many photos? No.

Do we receive all the photos you take?

You don't receive all the photos. I cull out any of the bad ones, photos that are out of focus, people blinking in group photos, and duplicates.

We don't want our photos shared on social media, used for marketing or promoted on your website. Is that ok?

Yeah, that's not a problem. I respect it if a client wishes to keep their photographs strictly private, just please inform me before or at the session.

Are there any charges for a meeting?

Not at all. I'm always happy to have a chat before you commit to anything. We can catch up in person if you're local to Bunbury, jump on a video call via WhatsApp, or have a good old fashioned phone call, whatever works best for you. There's no obligation and no pressure, just a relaxed conversation about your day and what you're looking for. Get in touch via the contact page and we'll find a time that suits.

Can you help with our wedding day timeline?

Yes, and I would encourage every couple to take me up on this. I have photographed 500+ weddings so I have a good sense of how long things take, what order works best, and where the golden hour falls at different times of year. I am happy to work through your timeline with you before the day to make sure everything runs smoothly and we have enough time for the photos you want.

If you want to get a head start, I have put together a full wedding day timeline guide with a free planner you can download. It covers everything from the morning prep through to the end of the reception. Get in touch and we can work through it together.

What is your dress code?

Neat casual. Long sleeve shirt with rolled-up sleeves, grey or dark blue chinos and brown shoes.

Do you offer engagement photoshoots or any other type of photoshoot before the wedding?

Yes I do. An engagement shoot can be added to the packages, or you can turn it into a family shoot.

I have some ideas I'd like to do for photos. Can I send them to you?

Yeah sure, no problems, please email them through.

Can we shoot on the beach?

Of course we can. Be prepared to empty out some sand.

Can we have photos taken at the ‘Golden Hour’?

Yes we can. It's your day, let me know what you'd like to do.

What happens if it rains on the day of my session?

Weather is one of those things nobody can control. For weddings I'll always adapt to whatever the day brings, some of the most beautiful shots happen in dramatic weather. For outdoor couple and family sessions, if conditions are severe enough to prevent the shoot from going ahead safely we can reschedule to a mutually agreed date. Light rain, wind or overcast skies are generally not grounds for rescheduling. If you'd like to reschedule your couple portrait session after a wedding due to weather, this can be arranged at an additional cost.

How far in advance should I reserve my wedding date?

I take bookings up to 1 and a half years in advance.

When are you available and what do you charge?

My question to you is, when is the date of your wedding or event and how long would you like my services for? Also please don't just give me the month your wedding is in. There are many days in a month, and depending on the month most of them are already booked.

I'm worried I've left it too late to book now, do you take last minute bookings?

If I'm available, yes I do.

I've decided I want to change my photography package and add more hours, can I do this?

Sure, not a problem.

Do you provide videography services?

Yes. I offer wedding videography for couples getting married between Mandurah and the South West. Full details are on my videography page.

Do you have backup gear?

Yes I do. For every wedding, event or shoot I bring 3 camera bodies, multiple lenses, memory cards and flashes. In the event of anything going wrong, I'll still be able to shoot.

Are my wedding photos safe?

Yes. All my cameras write to 2 cards when taking photos for redundancy, in the event that a memory card fails. When I get home I back up your photos to my computer, an external hard drive that travels with me and my NAS. I make sure I can see all the photos in my editing software, and the memory cards get put to the side until the photos are edited and uploaded.

What happens if my wedding goes a little longer than the number of hours we booked you for?

No problems. I can add the extra hour or hours onto the final invoice.

What are printing rights?

You can print the photos out for your own personal use, and you don't have to have them printed by me. You can get them printed anywhere.

What is included in the print presentation box?

All 6 hour and above packages include a presentation box with 10 x 6x4 prints and 2 x 5x7 prints, professionally printed in house on premium photo paper. You choose the images from your gallery and I'll print and post them to you. Print selections must be submitted within 1 month of gallery delivery.

Can you recommend a vendor for printing our photos ourselves?

Yes, I now do prints. But if you are located in Perth I like Fitzgerald Photo Imaging. They always do a great job.

Are there any hidden extra costs?

Nope, what I quote you is what you get.

How long does it take to receive my wedding photographs?

2 to 6 weeks after the wedding, as long as the final payment is made. You won't be waiting months for your photos.

What is the deposit and when do we pay the rest?

The deposit is 50% and you don't pay the other half until the photos are edited and uploaded, 2 to 6 weeks after the wedding.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes. Couples booking a June or July wedding receive 10% off their photography package.

Do you have a question that isn't covered here? Ask me via my contact page.
