Some sessions are about one thing. This one was about everything at once, an engagement to mark this new chapter, and a family shoot bringing Danielle and Damien's three kids, all young teenagers, together as one blended family.
We shot at the Layman Picnic Site within Ludlow Tuart Forest, tucked between Bunbury and Busselton, home to some of the oldest and largest tuart trees left anywhere in the world. Tall grey trunks, open space, and plenty of natural light made it a great setting for the session.
With three teenagers in the mix, the session covered a bit of everything, candid family moments, posed family portraits, and quieter engagement shots of Danielle and Damien together. While the couple had their engagement photos taken, the kids kept themselves happily occupied on their phones nearby, which meant Danielle and Damien actually got a proper moment to themselves in front of the camera.
The sky stayed overcast the whole session, and we had to pause and wait out a few passing showers along the way. Patience paid off though, overcast light is often kinder for portraits than harsh sun, soft and even, without the deep shadows a bright day would have thrown through all those tree trunks.
If you're planning an engagement session, family shoot, or something that blends the two, I'd love to help capture it. Ludlow Tuart Forest is one of my favourite spots in the region, but there are plenty of beautiful locations around Bunbury and Busselton worth considering too.
