Shannon and Jake, The Barn Hopeland

Some wedding days come with a bit of atmosphere you didn't plan for, and Shannon and Jake's was one of them.

Getting ready at Rockingham

Jake and his groomsmen got ready at Rockingham Foreshore, with photos done there before the ceremony. Shannon's bridal prep was close by, also in Rockingham, just a short distance from where the boys had been. With five groomsmen and five bridesmaids each, there was plenty of energy in both groups before the day got underway.

A smoky day at The Barn

The ceremony and reception were held at The Barn Hopeland, though the sky had other plans that day. Burn offs in the hills left a haze of smoke drifting through, giving the whole afternoon a moody, almost cinematic feel that you don't often get on a clear day.

Jake was visibly nervous both before and during the ceremony, which is always one of my favourite things to capture. There's something genuine about that mix of nerves and excitement right before you see your partner walking towards you, and it made for some really honest, emotional images.

Shannon and Jake already had two little boys together by the time they tied the knot, which made the whole day feel like less of a beginning and more of a celebration of the family they'd already built.

Portraits around the property

We spent time around The Barn's grounds for portraits, making the most of the rustic, rural setting despite the smoky conditions. It gave the images a completely different look to a typical clear-sky wedding, softer and a little more atmospheric.
